Finding the right firm
Architecture firms come in all sizes shapes and colors. We suggest trying to find the best fit for your project, by understanding what will enable you to work well with the Architect. If you’ve never worked with an Architect before, we hope that you’ll find the process engaging and rewarding. A good trust relationship will be paramount to the success of you project. Look for an Architect that is a good communicator, has design talent, technical ability, and is professional. Look for a firm that can respond to your needs given the scale of your work and the schedule in which you’d like to maintain.
Depending on the size of your project, your budget will likely determine the basis for the Architect’s fees. Be prepared to answer questions when interviewing an Architect that concern your budget, scope, goals and aesthetic aspirations for the project. There are several ways that Architecture firms can establish fees, and an open, direct dialogue about their proposed approach will be important.
Where to start:
- Contact your local AIA office and request a list of qualified firms in your area. Or visit the AIA website for a national search: http://architectfinder.aia.org/
- Ask around. Talk with others that have recently completed projects similar to yours, and get their feedback and recommendations.
